The switching mechanism is in the bogeys which hold the car to the track.  The switch is usually in the neutral position, which guides it along the main line. The diagram is cut-away for clarity.

When a turn is selected, then the switch grabs onto a rail which directs the car to the other track.  The bogeys rotate down but the car remains horizontal.

The doors slide out for easy entry. The cars are designed for four passengers and some baggage. The car is designed aerodynamically to minimize drag.
